If you are using a Sercomm DG4244 rental modem from SimplyNet, it will arrive to you with a default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) beginning with Sercomm-, and a default password printed on the modem’s sticker. Many people prefer to change the password and/or SSID once they receive the modem. Here are the steps to do just that.
Step 1: Connect to the Network
Connect your computer or smartphone to your Sercomm network by connecting to the Wi-Fi, or with an Ethernet cable (recommended).
Step 2: Access the Admin Portal
Open a web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar. You should see a login page appear with a spot for username and password.
Step 3: login to the Admin Portal
- Locate the sticker on the back or bottom of your router.
- Look for the Username (“admin”) and Password (distinct from the Wi-Fi password).
- Click “OK” on the password change popup that will come on screen, then “CANCEL” on the next window. This is suggesting you change the modem’s password (not the Wi-Fi password), and we don’t want to do that.Heads up: If you change this password and forget it, you will be locked out of the device, which is why we suggest not to change it!
Step 4: Navigate to Wireless Settings
Go to the Gateway tab, then select Connection > Wi-Fi
Step 5: Change the Password
- Click edit on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network.
- Locate the Wi-Fi Password (or WPA Pre-Shared Key) field and enter your new password. You could also edit the network name to something more personal at the same time, if desired.
- Click Save or Apply.
And that’s it! Note: All connected devices will disconnect, and you will need to reconnect them using the new password.
